Description

FRAME ONLY · FOR AN EXISTING 16 × 20 CANVAS

A Floating Frame Made for Your 16x20 Canvas

Give your existing stretched canvas a more polished presentation with a 16x20 floating frame for canvas. This frame-only product is designed specifically for artwork that already measures 16 × 20 inches.

The stretched canvas sits inside the surrounding outer frame with a narrow visible gap, creating the clean floating effect while keeping the front surface and edges of your artwork visible.

Before ordering, confirm that your existing stretched canvas measures exactly 16 × 20 inches, approximately 40.6 × 50.8 cm, then select the appropriate canvas depth and your preferred frame finish from the options above.

Designed for an Existing 16 × 20 Inch Stretched Canvas

This is a size-specific frame. Before ordering, check the actual outside dimensions and depth of the stretched canvas you already own.

16

16 Inch Side

One outside dimension of your stretched canvas should measure 16 inches from edge to edge.

20

20 Inch Side

The other outside dimension of your stretched canvas should measure 20 inches from edge to edge.

D

Canvas Depth

Measure the depth of your existing canvas and select the corresponding option shown above before ordering.

Important: The 16 × 20 inch measurement refers to your existing stretched canvas, not the finished outside dimensions of the floating frame.

Why Add a 16x20 Floating Frame to Your Canvas?

A floater frame can change the presentation of an existing canvas without replacing or reprinting the artwork itself.

A More Finished Look

The surrounding outer frame adds definition and can make an existing stretched canvas feel more complete on the wall.

Keep the Artwork Visible

The floating design does not need to overlap the front face of the canvas, helping keep the complete artwork visible.

Add Visual Depth

The narrow space around the canvas creates a subtle shadow line and gives the artwork a dimensional floating appearance.

Refresh an Existing Canvas

Add a different presentation to artwork you already own without having the image printed again.

Coordinate with Your Interior

Choose a frame finish that works with the colors in your artwork as well as nearby furniture and décor.

Suitable for Different Artwork

Photo canvases, paintings, portraits, landscapes and other compatible 16 × 20 inch stretched canvases can be framed.

MEASURE BEFORE ORDERING

How to Check That Your Canvas Is Really 16x20

Before ordering a floater frame for a 16x20 canvas, physically measure the finished stretched canvas itself. Do not rely only on an old invoice, product label or the dimensions of the printed image area.

Measure from Outside Edge to Outside Edge

Measure across the full physical width and height of the stretched canvas, including its wrapped sides.

Do Not Add Space for the Frame

You only need to confirm the canvas dimensions. The floating gap and surrounding outer frame are accounted for in the frame design.

Do Not Round an Unusual Size

If your canvas actually measures 15.75 × 19.8 inches, for example, do not automatically order the 16 × 20 frame. Contact us with the exact measurements instead.

Check the Depth of Your 16x20 Canvas Before Ordering

Not every 16 × 20 inch canvas uses the same stretcher-bar depth. Two canvases can have identical front dimensions while projecting different distances from the wall.

Measure from the front face of your stretched canvas to the furthest back edge of the stretcher frame and select the corresponding depth option above.

Important: Width and height alone are not enough. The correct canvas depth is also important when determining compatibility with the floating frame.
APPROX. 5 MM FLOATING GAP

A Clean Floating Gap Around Your Canvas

A conventional picture frame often overlaps part of an image. A floater frame works differently: the stretched canvas is positioned inside the surrounding outer frame with visible space between the two.

Our design uses an approximately 5 mm gap around the canvas. This spacing creates the characteristic floating appearance while allowing the front surface and edges of the stretched canvas to remain visible.

The result is a clean, contemporary presentation suitable for photography, artwork and paintings on stretched canvas.

PORTRAIT OR LANDSCAPE

16x20 Canvas in Portrait or Landscape Orientation

The same 4:5 proportion can be displayed vertically as 16 × 20 or horizontally as 20 × 16.

Portrait 16 × 20

A vertical 16 × 20 canvas works well for individual portraits, wedding photographs, family photos and other upright artwork.

Landscape 20 × 16

The same dimensions can also be displayed horizontally for landscapes, family groups, travel photography and wider artwork.

The important factor is that the existing stretched canvas has one 16-inch side and one 20-inch side and uses a compatible depth.

Choose the Right Frame Finish for Your 16x20 Canvas

The best frame finish depends on both the artwork and the room where the completed piece will be displayed.

Black

Provides stronger contrast and can work particularly well with photography, monochrome images and contemporary interiors.

White

Creates a lighter overall appearance and can complement bright artwork and minimal interiors.

Natural & Wood Finishes

Warmer finishes can complement landscapes, paintings, family photographs and rooms featuring natural materials.

Decorative Finishes

Gold, silver and other decorative finishes can add contrast or warmth when a stronger framing presence is preferred.

Please refer to the product options above for the colors and finishes currently available.

What If Your Canvas Is Not Exactly 16x20?

Do not order this frame simply because your canvas is close to 16 × 20 inches. A floating frame relies on accurate dimensions to maintain the intended fit and spacing around the artwork.

If your canvas is another standard size, browse our wider Floating Frame for Canvas range. If it has unusual dimensions, our Custom Floating Frame for Canvas product may be more suitable.
